                             An Open letter

Hi everyone!

The main reason that I became a Board member of Sierra View is to help in making sure that our area remains an enjoyable and safe place to live. Most of us have homes where both partners work; have single parent families; and commute to work. Unfortunately, this leaves our homes open to criminal activity that can weaken our community.

This is the reason why a Neighborhood Crime Watch Club is long overdue. We need to address any immediate crime problems focusing on home security and building stronger relationships with our neighbors.  Some of the things that our Club can possibly do is:

  • Hold regular meetings to help residents get to know each other and discuss possible strategies and activities to curb crime.
  • Start a neighborhood parent program to help children while walking to and from school or playing in an area (Safe House).
  • Ask people who seldom leave their home to be “Window Watchers” looking out for children and any unusual activities in the neighborhood.
  • Publicize our program via newsletters and local media.
  • Establish a buddy system for the elderly and people with disabilities where someone can check with them daily by phone.
  • Maintain property (mow the lawn/ shovel the snow) and pick up mail for people who are on vacation.
  • Use of citizen patrols.

Our club is open for everyone-young (teenagers), older, single, married – anyone who lives in the area. If you are a person that is too busy to get involved or have some time on your hands, you will be perfect for our Club. In other words, all of us should let the “bad guys” know that their every move is being watched.

If you are interested in joining our Neighborhood Crime Watch Club, please call the Sierra View Association at 570-646-4588.

Sincerely,

Perry Apostle
